Product Description

Black seed oil is cold-pressed from the seeds of the Nigella sativa plant. Known historically as “the remedy for everything except death,” it is uniquely characterized by the presence of Thymoquinone (TQ). This bioactive compound is a powerhouse of anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antibacterial properties, making the oil particularly effective for “problem” skin conditions like acne, eczema, and psoriasis. It is exceptionally rich in Linoleic Acid (Omega-6) and contains over 100 different vitamins and minerals, including Zinc, Calcium, and Folic Acid. In hair care, black seed oil is a legendary ingredient for strengthening hair follicles, reducing hair fall, and soothing inflammatory scalp conditions. Its high nutrient density helps to reinforce the skin’s barrier and promote rapid cellular repair, leading to a more resilient and clearer complexion.

Possible Uses/Applications:

  • Problem-Skin Salves: Addressing inflammatory conditions like psoriasis or chronic dryness.
  • Immune-Support Skincare: Providing high levels of Thymoquinone for skin defense.
  • Anti-Pollution Face Oils: Protecting the skin barrier from urban environmental stressors.
  • Fortifying Scalp Oils: Strengthening hair at the root to reduce seasonal shedding.

Formulation Guidelines

Black seed oil is quite stable compared to other seed oils, but its active thymoquinone content is best preserved by adding the oil during the cool-down phase (below 45°C). Because of its intense, peppery aroma, it is often used as a “functional active” rather than a base oil. It pairs excellently with lighter oils like Grapeseed or Jojoba to balance its viscosity. In emulsions, it contributes to a robust, protective skin feel. To maximize the longevity of its complex nutrient profile, the addition of Vitamin E (Tocopherol) at 0.2% is recommended.

Safety Guidelines

  • Topical Use Only: Intended for external cosmetic application.
  • Potency Warning: Due to its high concentration of volatile compounds, it can be “tingly” or warm on the skin; individuals with sensitive skin should perform a patch test.
  • Pregnancy: While generally safe topically, some practitioners advise caution with high-percentage applications during pregnancy.
  • Storage: Store in a cool, dark place. Its natural antioxidant properties give it a respectable shelf life of 12–18 months.
