Product Description

Calendula oil is typically produced by macerating (infusing) the vibrant petals of the Calendula officinalis flower into a high-quality carrier oil (such as Sunflower or Sweet Almond). It is the ultimate “skin-soothing” oil, prized for its high concentration of Faradiol esters, flavonoids, and carotenoids. These compounds are scientifically recognized for their ability to accelerate wound healing and stimulate collagen production at the site of injury. Calendula acts as a powerful anti-inflammatory agent, making it the gold standard for compromised skin barriers, diaper rash, and radiation-induced dermatitis. Its gentle nature makes it suitable for the most sensitive skin types, providing deep hydration while calming redness and itching. In hair care, it is used to soothe dry, irritated scalps and add a soft luster to the hair shaft.

Formulation Guidelines

Calendula oil is relatively stable, but because it is rich in heat-sensitive carotenoids and plant sterols, it should ideally be incorporated during the cool-down phase (below 45°C). It is often used as the “hero” oil in anhydrous balms and salves due to its beautiful natural color and therapeutic reputation. Because it is often an infusion, the stability of the final product depends largely on the base oil used for the maceration. To ensure a long shelf life and protect the delicate floral extracts, the addition of Vitamin E (Tocopherol) at 0.2%–0.5% is essential.

Safety Guidelines

• Topical Use Only: Intended for external cosmetic application.
• Allergy Warning: Individuals with allergies to the Asteraceae (daisy) family—such as ragweed, chrysanthemums, or marigolds—should perform a patch test, as cross-reactivity is possible.
• Comedogenic Rating: Usually a 1 or 2 (depending on the carrier oil used for infusion), making it safe for most skin types.
• Storage: Store in a cool, dark place. The natural pigments are light-sensitive and may fade if exposed to direct sunlight.
