Product Description
Vanilla oil is found as an infusion of vanilla beans (Vanilla planifolia) in a carrier oil or as a concentrated oleoresin. It is highly valued in skincare not just for its iconic, soothing scent, but for its high concentration of Vanillin, a powerful polyphenol with significant antioxidant properties. These antioxidants help to neutralize free radicals and shield the skin from environmental damage and chemical stress. Vanilla is naturally anti-inflammatory and antibacterial, making it excellent for soothing dull, tired skin or minor irritations. Beyond its physiological benefits, vanilla is a cornerstone of aromatherapeutic formulation; it is scientifically recognized for its ability to reduce stress and anxiety, making it a premier choice for “nighttime” skincare routines, luxury body oils, and lip treatments designed to provide both physiological repair and sensory comfort.
Possible Uses/Applications:
- Gourmet Body Butters: Adding a natural, comforting scent and antioxidant boost to thick emulsions.
- Relaxing Bath Oils: Providing a soothing aromatic experience while moisturizing the skin.
- Lip Balms & Glosses: Offering a safe, pleasant flavor profile and emollient protection.
- Anti-Stress Body Oils: Targeted for use in evening skincare routines to promote relaxation.
Formulation Guidelines
- Vanilla oil can be thick and difficult to incorporate, so it is best to blend it with a lighter carrier oil before adding it to a larger batch.
- Always add it during the cool-down phase (below 40°C) to preserve its complex aromatic profile and antioxidant vanillin
- Ensure thorough mixing, especially for concentrated oleoresins that may settle at the bottom of thin formulations.
- Vanilla oil can slightly darken the color of white creams over time since it is rich in natural sugars and resins.
- Always include 0.1% Vitamin E (Tocopherol) to protect the carrier oil base from rancidity.
Safety Guidelines
- Intended for external cosmetic use.
- High concentrations of vanillin can cause contact dermatitis in very sensitive individuals. Always adhere to recommended usage rates.
- Vanillin is known to cause browning in soaps and lotions over time; consider this when designing the aesthetic of your product.
- Store in a cool, dark place.
