• Color: Bright golden yellow (unrefined) or clear/colorless (refined).
• Odor: Faint, pleasant nutty aroma or odorless (refined).

Product Solubility: Fully soluble in cosmetic oils and organic solvents; insoluble in water.

Product Description

Jojoba oil is a liquid wax ester extracted from the seeds of the Simmondsia chinensis shrub, native to North American deserts. It is unique in the botanical world because its chemical structure almost perfectly mimics human sebum, the natural oil produced by our skin. This biomimicry allows Jojoba to penetrate deeply without disrupting the skin barrier, effectively “tricking” the skin into regulating its own oil production. Rich in eicosenoic acid and natural tocopherols, it offers excellent oxidative stability and deep hydration without a heavy, occlusive feel. Its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties make it a versatile powerhouse for balancing oily and acne-prone complexions while providing soothing relief for dry, eczematous skin. In hair care, it acts as a lightweight lubricant that smooths the cuticle and dissolves buildup on the scalp, promoting a healthy environment for hair growth.

• Facial Cleansers: Dissolving excess sebum and makeup effectively.
• Acne-Prone Skincare: Balancing oil production without clogging pores.
• Conditioning Beard Oils: Softening coarse hair while moisturizing the skin beneath.
• Nail & Cuticle Care: Penetrating deeply to strengthen the nail bed.

Formulation Guidelines

• Jojoba oil is remarkably shelf-stable and resistant to rancidity compared to most carrier oils.
• It is heat-tolerant and can be added to the oil phase of a formulation before heating.
• Adding it during the cool-down phase (under 60°C) is still a common practice to preserve trace nutrients.
• Jojoba oil can improve the spreadability of heavier butters.
• It acts as a natural stabilizer, often helping to extend the shelf life of more fragile oils in a blend.

Safety Guidelines

• Intended for external application; do not ingest as it contains erucic acid.
• Has a low comedogenic rating (approx. 2), making it safe for most skin types.
• May solidify or become cloudy in cold temperatures (below 10°C); simply warm gently to return it to a liquid state.
• Store in a cool, dry place. Its natural stability allows for a long shelf life of 2–3 years.
