Aloe Vera Carrier Oil

Product Appearance:

• Color: Clear to pale yellow or light greenish liquid.
• Odor: Characteristic, mild, slightly nutty or vegetal scent.
• Texture: Light to medium viscosity.

Product Solubility: Fully soluble in cosmetic oils and organic solvents but insoluble in water.

Possible Usage Rate:

The usage rate depends on the desired intensity of the product:

• Lotions & Creams: 1% – 10%
• Lip Balms & Salves: 5% – 20%
• Hair Oils & Conditioners: 2% – 5%
• Direct Application: Can be used at 100%.

pH Range

4.5-5.5 but not always applicable since aloe vera oil is an anhydrous (water-free) lipid.

Product Description

Aloe vera oil is an oil-based extract of the Aloe barbadensis plant. Unlike aloe vera gel, which is water-based and rich in polysaccharides, the oil contains the lipid-soluble components of the plant, including antioxidants, vitamins A, C, and E, and fatty acids. It acts as an emollient, providing deep hydration and anti-inflammatory benefits. As such, it an excellent product for soothing sunburnt skin or repairing a damaged skin barrier.

Possible Uses/Applications:

• After-Sun Care: Soothing inflammation and repairing UV-damaged skin.
• Scalp Treatments: Relieving dryness and itching while locking in moisture.
• Post-Waxing/Shaving Balms: To reduce redness and provide immediate cooling comfort.
• Barrier Repair Creams: Enhancing the lipid layer in sensitive skin formulations.

Formulation Guidelines

• Avoid heating the oil above 60°C for extended periods. This helps prevent degrading the delicate botanical compounds. It is best added during the cool-down phase of an emulsion.
• In a lotion, add aloe vera oil to the oil phase.
• Hair Care: Use as a “pre-poo” treatment or a sealant for curly hair to lock in moisture and soothe a dry, itchy scalp.
• Since it is an oil, it is susceptible to rancidity. Always include an antioxidant like Vitamin E (Tocopherol) at 0.1%–0.5% to extend the shelf life.

Safety Guidelines

• Topical Use Only: This oil is intended for external cosmetic application and should not be ingested.
• Patch Testing: Although generally safe, individuals with allergies to the Liliaceae family (onions, garlic, lilies) should perform a patch test first.
• Storage: Store in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight to prevent oxidation.
• Photosensitivity: Generally non-photosensitizing, but always check the purity of the carrier oil used in the infusion.
