Product Description

Extracted from the seeds of the iconic “Tree of Life” (Adansonia digitata), Baobab oil is a powerhouse of skin nutrition from the African savannah. It is one of the few oils that contains a nearly perfect balance of all three essential fatty acids: Omega-3, 6, and 9. It is exceptionally high in Vitamin C, as well as Vitamins A, D, E, and F (Linoleic acid), making it a premier ingredient for improving skin elasticity and encouraging cell regeneration. Baobab is particularly prized for its high percentage of palmitic acid, which provides a protective, breathable barrier that shields the skin from extreme temperatures and environmental pollutants. In hair care, it is a “super-emollient” that deeply penetrates the hair follicle to improve elasticity and prevent breakage in dry or chemically treated hair.

Possible Uses/Applications:

  • Intensive Hand & Foot Creams: Repairing cracked or severely dry skin with its high palmitic acid content.
  • Environmental Shield Serums: Protecting skin from extreme temperatures and pollutants.
  • Deep Conditioners: Improving elasticity and preventing breakage in dry or chemically treated hair.
  • Winter Skincare: Providing a heavy-duty moisture seal for cold-weather protection.

Formulation Guidelines

Baobab oil is remarkably stable compared to other nutrient-dense oils due to its high saturated fat content, giving it excellent resistance to oxidation. While it can withstand moderate heat, it is best added during the cool-down phase (below 60°C) to preserve its high Vitamin C and sterol content. It acts as an excellent “carrier” for more volatile essential oils and helps stabilize more fragile oils (like Rosehip) in a blend. In emulsions, it provides a luxurious, long-lasting moisturized feel. To maximize shelf life, the addition of Vitamin E (Tocopherol) at 0.1%–0.3% is still recommended.

Safety Guidelines

Topical Use Only: Intended for external cosmetic application.

Comedogenic Rating: Rated at a 2; it is generally safe for most skin types, though those with extremely oily skin should use it in moderation.

Storage: Store in a cool, dark place. Due to its inherent stability, it has a long shelf life of 24 months or more when kept away from direct sunlight.

Hypoallergenic: Generally considered non-irritating and excellent for sensitive or sensitized skin.
