Product Description

Orange peel oil is cold-pressed from the outer rind of the Citrus sinensis fruit. It is prized in skincare for its high concentration of Limonene, a powerful antioxidant that supports collagen production and increases blood flow to the skin’s surface. This “liquid sunshine” acts as a natural skin brightener, helping to clear congested pores and revitalize dull, tired complexions. Its anti-inflammatory and mild antiseptic properties make it a popular choice for balancing oily skin and soothing minor irritations. Beyond its topical benefits, the scent of sweet orange is a cornerstone of aromatherapy, scientifically recognized for its uplifting, mood-boosting, and stress-reducing effects. In hair care, it adds a brilliant shine to the hair shaft and leaves a refreshing, clean scent that masks more medicinal-smelling active ingredients.

Possible Uses/Applications:

  • Detoxifying Body Wraps: Utilized for its limonene content to support skin drainage and tone.
  • Invigorating Shower Gels: Providing an uplifting, citrus-based aromatherapy experience.
  • Anti-Aging Vitamin C Boosters: Offering antioxidant protection against environmental stressors.
  • Cellulite-Focused Creams: Often included in formulations designed to firm and smooth skin texture.

Formulation Guidelines

Orange peel oil is extremely volatile and sensitive to heat and oxygen. It must be added during the cool-down phase (below 40°C) to prevent the delicate citrus notes and bioactive terpenes from evaporating. Like most citrus oils, it is highly prone to oxidation, which can transform the oil into a skin irritant. To ensure stability, always incorporate an antioxidant like Vitamin E (Tocopherol) at 0.2%–0.5% in any oil-based formulation. In emulsions, it can act as a natural degreaser, so monitor the viscosity of your creams, as high concentrations may slightly thin the texture.

Safety Guidelines

  • Photosensitivity: Sweet Orange oil is generally considered non-phototoxic; however, it is still best practice to limit sun exposure after applying citrus-heavy leave-on products.
  • Oxidation Risk: Never use old or oxidized orange oil (which may smell “sour” or “sharp”), as it becomes a potent skin sensitizer.
  • Dilution: Always dilute in a carrier oil; applying it neat can cause redness or a stinging sensation.
  • Storage: Store in a cool, dark place, preferably in the refrigerator, to preserve its freshness. Use within 6–12 months.
