Product Description

Eucalyptus oil is steam-distilled from the leaves of the Eucalyptus globulus tree. Its primary active constituent is 1,8-cineole (also known as Eucalyptol), which provides its signature cooling, clearing, and anti-inflammatory properties. In skincare, it is valued for its potent antiseptic and purifying qualities, making it highly effective for treating congested skin and minor wounds. It is a staple in sports medicine and “muscle-relief” formulations because it helps increase local blood circulation and provides a mild analgesic effect. For hair care, it is used to stimulate the scalp and combat dandruff through its antifungal actions. Beyond its physical applications, its sharp, refreshing scent is a pillar of aromatherapy for opening the respiratory tract and promoting a sense of revitalization and mental clarity.

Possible Uses/Applications:

  • Chest Rubs & Balms: Providing a cooling sensation and aromatic support for respiratory comfort.
  • Muscle Recovery Gels: Used post-workout to soothe tired or overworked limbs.
  • Clarifying Foot Soaks: Offering antibacterial properties for foot hygiene and odor control.
  • Stimulating Scalp Serums: To invigorate the scalp and refresh the hair roots.

Formulation Guidelines

  • Eucalyptus oil is highly volatile and should only be added during the cool-down phase (below 40°C) of production.
  • If exposed to high heat, the therapeutic 1,8-cineole can evaporate, leaving the product ineffective and altering the scent profile.
  • It is a powerful solvent; when formulating, ensure your packaging is compatible with essential oils to prevent “leaching.”
  • Include an antioxidant like Vitamin E (Tocopherol) at 0.1%–0.3% to maintain the integrity of the oil and protect the base carrier oils in your formula.

Safety Guidelines

  • Topical Use Only: Concentrated eucalyptus oil is toxic if ingested.
  • Respiratory Safety: Avoid use on or near the faces of young children, as the high cineole content can cause laboured breathing or nervous system issues
  • Dilution Required: Always dilute in a carrier oil to prevent skin sensitization and irritation.
  • Storage: Store in a cool, dry place in an airtight amber glass bottle. Exposure to air causes the oil to oxidize, increasing the risk of skin reactions.
