Product Description

Sweet almond oil is cold-pressed from the dried kernels of the Prunus amygdalus dulcis tree. It is widely regarded as one of the most versatile “workhorse” oils in the cosmetic industry due to its hypoallergenic nature and excellent emollient properties. Rich in Oleic Acid (Omega-9) and Linoleic Acid (Omega-6), it effectively softens the skin and restores the moisture barrier without being overly heavy. It is a natural source of Vitamin E, Vitamin A (retinol), and potassium, which work together to soothe irritation and protect against UV radiation damage. Because of its superior “slip” and slow-to-medium absorption rate, it is the gold standard for massage therapy and body treatments. Its mildness makes it a preferred choice for sensitive skin, including pediatric formulations and delicate under-eye care, where it helps reduce puffiness and brighten the complexion.

Formulation Guidelines

• Sweet almond oil is relatively stable and easy to work with in a laboratory setting.
• While it can withstand moderate heat, adding it during the cool-down phase (below 60°C) is recommended to maintain its natural vitamin content.
• It serves as an excellent base oil for anhydrous balms and salves, providing a consistent texture that does not grain.
• In emulsions, it creates a creamy, luxurious feel.
• To ensure long-term stability and prevent the oxidation of its linoleic acid content, always include an antioxidant like Vitamin E (Tocopherol) at 0.1%–0.5%.

• Topical Use Only: Intended for external cosmetic application.
• Nut Allergy Warning: As a tree nut oil, it should be avoided by individuals with known nut allergies.
• Comedogenic Rating: Rated at a 2; it is generally safe for most skin types, but should be used with caution on very acne-prone skin.
• Storage: Store in a cool, dark place. While stable, it can oxidize over 12 months if exposed to light and air.
