Product Description

Grapeseed oil is a byproduct of the winemaking industry, cold-pressed from the seeds of Vitis vinifera. It is highly esteemed in the cosmetic industry for its exceptionally high content of Linoleic Acid (Omega-6) and Oligomeric Proanthocyanidin Complexes (OPCs). These potent antioxidants are significantly more powerful than Vitamin C or E in neutralizing free radicals and protecting the skin’s collagen and elastin fibers. Because of its very small molecular size, it penetrates the skin almost instantly without leaving a greasy residue, making it the premier choice for individuals with oily or combination skin. It acts as a natural astringent, helping to tighten tissues and tone the skin while reducing the appearance of under-eye circles. In hair care, its lightweight nature provides moisture and heat protection to fine hair without weighing it down, leaving a high-shine, satin finish.

Possible Uses/Applications:

  • Oily Skin Moisturizers: A favorite “thin” oil that provides hydration without a heavy residue.
  • Astringent Face Toners: Helping to tighten the look of pores and balance surface oils.
  • Lightweight Body Sprays: An ideal base for “dry” body oils that absorb almost instantly.
  • Under-Makeup Primers: Providing a smooth, non-greasy canvas for foundation application.

Formulation Guidelines

  • Grapeseed oil is very sensitive to heat and light.
  • It should be added during the cool-down phase (below 40°C) whenever possible to prevent the oil from going rancid.
  • If it must be heated in the oil phase, keep the duration as short as possible.
  • It is critical to include an antioxidant such as Vitamin E (Tocopherol) at 0.2%–0.5% since grapeseed oil is prone to rapid oxidation.
  • It is often used as a base for “dry” body oils or as a thinning agent to reduce the heaviness of thicker oils

Safety Guidelines

  • Intended for external cosmetic application.
  • Non-Comedogenic: With a rating of 1, it is highly recommended for acne-prone skin as it does not clog pores.
  • Shelf Life: It has a relatively short shelf life (6–12 months). Always check for a “vinegar” or sour smell before use.
  • Storage: Store in a cool, dark place. For maximum longevity, keeping it in a refrigerator is advised.
